2011
After a six month break, I'm back at The Learning Connexion in Wellington. I almost forgot how much I love the place. There is nowhere in the world with more colourful buildings or people. And God knows I love colour!
Time to go off to school and work on some wall sculptures for an upcoming exhibition in October. The Advanced Diploma course I'm doing at the moment includes an emphasis on materials and process, so I'm having lots of fun with lots of different experiments.
I will write again soon, but for now, it's time for me to fly.

2010 So Far
2010 has been a very eventful year. I've already had a double exhibition with Douglas Sehnert at The Southern Cross (the second half of which goes til the end of the month) and some paintings are likely to find their way into the New Zealand Art Festival in Wellington midway through the year. I've even sold "Self Portrait in Orange and Blue" from my Strawberry Fare collection! Hopefully she has found a good home; a special one to me, she is.

Invisible Movement
A good collection of my paintings are currently up at Strawberry Fare in the heart of Wellington. It's a dessert restaurant. That means, as well as the usual food, it has the best cheesecake possible! Trust me, I've tried it.
Check out a feature I had on the largest unofficial John Frusciante website, Invisible Movement: http://www.invisible-movement.net/2009/10/six-paintings-by-lorraine-tyler. The John and Flea painting in particular seems to take on a different feel, now that John's left the band (amicably, I must note).
My next major exhibition is coming up at The Southern Cross, a restaurant with a specialized gallery space in Wellington. It'll run from the beginning of April to the end of May. Doug Sehnert, another Wellington artist, will be showing his art too. It'll be a fun-filled, bold display. And don't forget the mouthwatering texture. ;)
Now that I have a few specialized paintings temporarily not on display, I've decided to put them on trademe.co.nz (New Zealand's home for online auctions and classifieds). Interested in rugby or rock'n'roll? Go and take a look!

The Set-up
Today my housemate Kathy helped me set up my "Colourful Personalities" Exhibition at Parade Cafe. It took two hours, but we were really happy with the result. Each of the three rooms I exhibit in has a sense of balance and I'd like to think those paintings are quite eye-catching for the customers there. The opening night celebrations, tomorrow at 5:30, will be very exciting indeed. It looks like there will be a good turn-out. Everyone will have fun, and enjoy the drinks and nibbles. Look for me tomorrow night; I'll be the one in the black dress with the fur wrap ;)

Not too tough
Artist's Statement
I'm inspired by the positivity in mankind; no matter how bad or strange a situation is, many people are still able to see the good in it, and that's what feeds my creativity. While I like to paint landscapes and objects associated with rich memories and sensations, this artwork is currently centred around people. My subjects live stories that inspire me; I learn something from each person that I'd like to share with viewers. Sometimes I see the images in dreams, but more often I'll look at something or someone that is outwardly ordinary and my mind and heart will know just which colours, textures, and shapes could describe what has captured to me. I'll know whether a subtle watercolour technique or bold oil paints will work best. Those who have inspired me have helped me to grow and I'd like to help others by sharing my journey as well.
