2011

I have internet at home again! Yay! That makes it so much easier to, well, network, and it's great! Time to update my images on here, too, in the not-too-distant future.

After a six month break, I'm back at The Learning Connexion in Wellington. I almost forgot how much I love the place. There is nowhere in the world with more colourful buildings or people. And God knows I love colour!

Time to go off to school and work on some wall sculptures for an upcoming exhibition in October. The Advanced Diploma course I'm doing at the moment includes an emphasis on materials and process, so I'm having lots of fun with lots of different experiments.

I will write again soon, but for now, it's time for me to fly.

Artist's Statement

I'm inspired by the positivity in mankind; no matter how bad or strange a situation is, many people are still able to see the good in it, and that's what feeds my creativity. While I like to paint landscapes and objects associated with rich memories and sensations, this artwork is currently centred around people. My subjects live stories that inspire me; I learn something from each person that I'd like to share with viewers. Sometimes I see the images in dreams, but more often I'll look at something or someone that is outwardly ordinary and my mind and heart will know just which colours, textures, and shapes could describe what has captured to me. I'll know whether a subtle watercolour technique or bold oil paints will work best. Those who have inspired me have helped me to grow and I'd like to help others by sharing my journey as well.

Inspirations
Australian swimming sensation, Ian Thorpe, is someone I don't really know much about, but I know that once he admitted he wasn't necessarily a talented swimmer; instead, he just worked really hard for what he achieved. I've remembered that and have slowly absorbed it over the years.
